Welcome to Walla Walla
Sam and Annie had it all. Sam had retired, Annie still volunteered at local charities. The kids had left the house and everything was peaceful, maybe too peaceful.
So after a lot of talk, this baby boomer couple chucked big city life and decided to go off on a new adventure. Annie had always wanted a farm with horses, dogs, and chickens and that’s exactly what she got. Sam had always wanted to write a book and that is exactly what he did.
Welcome to Walla Walla, the first book by Sam McLeod, is a heart-warming and often hilarious tale about Sam and Annie’s move to the country. The book offers a series of letters written to friends and family about their new town, some of the characters who live there, buying land and building a farmhouse and a barn, converting 160 acres of pastureland into a refuge for wildlife, and exploring their new surroundings.
Annie Charnley Eveland of the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin says, “Reading this book is akin to chatting with a neighbor over the back yard fence. McLeod’s funny, folksy approach made me laugh aloud a number of times.”
Following in the footsteps of Mayle’s A Year in Provence, Welcome to Walla Walla is humorous, current, and true to Walla Walla’s charm. Sam’s honest appraisal as a newcomer is genuine and amiable. Through his letters to friends and family the reader will get an affectionate look at a town that so many people have come to love.
