Storytelling & Event Speaking

Sam’s writing opened the door to storytelling and he loves it. He tells his stories in front of audiences large and small—book clubs, women’s clubs, civic groups, senior centers, student groups, and government organizations—and finds working with audiences incredibly rewarding.

A couple of years ago, Sam got together with several friends in Walla Walla to talk about creating a live variety show. It all started with their shared affection for the Walla Walla Valley, a place ripe with history, quirks, and talented people. Using A Prairie Home Companion and Thacker Mountain Radio as models, Sam and his friends created Neither Here Nor There, a show full of stories, music, poetry, special guests, skits, and audience participation. They started slowly, experimented, adjusted, revamped, and plowed ahead. And it worked! Shows now sell out within hours after tickets go on sale. Audiences love ’em and everybody’s having fun.

Sam’s stories also appear in the newspaper column he writes for the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin called “View from the Porch” and in his blog under the same name. If you’d like to read Sam’s blog, click here.
